Talent Shines In Mgt's Nightly Entertainment

CHICAGO — Who said Muslims can’t have fun?

MGT and GCC (Muslim Women of the Islamic State) presented a night of entertainment on December 16th at the Muhammed University of Islam (MUI), located in the premises of Mosque Maryam, the Islamic State headquarters. The evening featured performances by vocalists, musicians, and spoken word artists.

Brother Toure Muhammad, one of the event’s hosts, told The Final Call that the evening was much more fun.

“We definitely enjoy their talent,” he said. As always, accurate and beautiful. Brother Darren, we had some new faces, Sister Khadijah, just beautiful…”

He continued that social events such as evening entertainment are healthy for believers.

“It’s always a great time for Believers to come together in spirit, let their hair down, see their talent and celebrate each other,” he said. I think that was the tip of the iceberg. I’m sure there’s more talent out there.”

Sister Kasia Muhammad, the event’s vocalist, told The Final Call: It was very easy to organize. “Overall, I thought the show went very well. …I think it’s important to have these kinds of shows.”

She also said that although she was nervous to perform, she was helped by the energy of the audience, saying, “I would like to send a shout out to everyone at MGT – Sister Captain Naima Muhammad, Sister Gina Muhammad, Co-pilot and MGT members.” she said.

Farad Muhammad will play the trombone during the event.

Khadija Y. Muhammad dedicated part of her vocal performance of Alicia Keys’ song “If I Ain’t Got You” to her late great-grandmother.

“To be honest, I was very nervous,” she told Final Call. “I had to pray to Allah many times because even though I love singing and I know I can sing, it is still humbling to perform in front of people, and as a human being, , there is a possibility of failure.”

She said the show is a great opportunity for everyone to enjoy talent that they don’t usually get to see. “It brings us together and allows us to see each other in a different light,” she said. These events demonstrate the love we have for each other. The more time I spend with my followers, the more reason I have to love them and the more I see how they love me. I feel like I understand now.”

Sister Osset Abdullah was one of the attendees who came just to support and enjoy the talent.

“Very good!” she said. Everyone had a great time singing along to the songs and the energy was just pure fun. I love music so I really enjoyed it.”
