Self-care is an important part of health.
Experts like Soltana Nosrati, a social worker at Novant Health, say self-care is essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Nosrati said self-care practices at QCity Metro vary from person to person and range from activities such as keeping a diary, maintaining a healthy and balanced diet, and prioritizing sleep. .
She encourages people to maintain an active lifestyle, limit negative self-talk, and see a doctor regularly.
She also notes that setting boundaries with colleagues and loved ones is also an important aspect of self-care.
Nosrati said topics like self-care are often ignored in communities of color, including Black communities, but they play an important role in health.
“When we talk about mental health, [communities-of-color]” Nosrati told QCity Metro. “It’s often dismissed as if you’re not tough enough. But when you look at it in the future, even if you don’t realize it emotionally, you can physically see the impact. Sho.”
